How to Prepare for an Interview Like a Boss!

This is it. You have an interview at a company you’d love to work for. What now? You want to put your best foot forward, but how? What do you wear? How do you prepare? If these are questions plaguing your mind, Le Reussi has got you covered. Here are some tried and true tips for how to dress and prepare for an interview.

When it comes to interviews, you need to make a good first impression. You’ve probably heard the saying, “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have,” over and over again, but is it really true? The clothing you wear sends signals to others about your attitude, enthusiasm, and dedication. Wearing clothes that mimic those of the higher management can show them that you believe you can be a part of their group—meaning you’re literally dressing for success! You could show up in a basic dress shirt and slacks, and that would be just fine, or you can step it up and wear professional clothing an executive would wear. This will show your interviewer that you mean business, and that you are ready to take on the challenges your new job will give you.

Now it’s time to pick an outfit.

It’s a good idea to research the company you’re interviewing with to get a feel for their company culture. It’s important to make sure that while dressing like a boss, you still match the flow of the company. You don’t want to show up in an outfit that looks wildly out of place for the field you’re in. Pick business or smart casual attire that shows you understand the goals of the company and that shows off your own personal goals.

Once you have a grasp of what kind of look you want to strive for, keep your own sense of style in mind! Your clothes are an expression of your personality, so whether you’re a trousers or pencil skirt type of gal, show your unique taste through your wardrobe. In an interview, you want your personality to shine through, because the interviewer will be more likely to hire you if they connect with you.

Now that you have your outfit, prepare, prepare, prepare! Write down a list of common interview questions and practice answering them in front of the mirror. That way, when the time comes, you’ll be ready to answer the questions even when you’re feeling nervous. If you prefer, you can have a friend or family member pose as the interviewer and ask you questions, so you can practice answering them in front of another person. In your answers, use the research you did earlier to your advantage. Your answers should demonstrate that you are knowledgeable about the company and position you’re interviewing for.

When in an interview, it helps to pose yourself as a solution to a problem. You could say that most companies in your field struggle with a certain problem, then explain why your expertise can help address it. This will make you an asset to the company and show you are knowledgeable about your line of work.

Lastly, remind yourself that you are capable, dedicated, professional, and hardworking. You deserve to achieve the job of your dreams because you’ve worked hard for it. Showing up with these things in mind will increase your confidence, which is everything in a job interview!
